My New Years Resolutions: Not! One Word: Consistency.

I am so anti-New Years resolutions! Years ago, I simply stopped creating them.

You always see it.. Everybody is like a bat out of hell trying to accomplish the absolutely humongous and unrealistic goals they’ve set out for themselves. People are over-posting images on Instagram or Tweeting every few minutes. They have a day job,¬†have a family and they plan projects that are going to take them 40 hours a week to complete. It’s crazy.

I have known many successful people. Many of them don’t have MBAs or for that fact, not even have a college degree. But what they have is motivation and CONSISTENCY. It’s plugging away day after day, every day (or at least, most of the time) to accomplish their goals. Every day, a tiny step forward. But when you look at it over the long haul, it looks like a huge jump. But no, it’s 100s of days and weeks with tiny little steps. Yes, big major steps happen occasionally. But they are far outnumbered by the little ones.

It’s not exciting.

That’s why it’s so important to keep track of your progress however works best for you. I put down into a database all my social media statistics every week. My gains every week may not be all that exciting, but when I look at where I was a year ago, it’s quite good. Sure I wish I were doing better. Don’t we all. But in another year, I’ll do even better and the next even more. Over the course of three years, I hope to be in a position that I could only have dreamt of. All this by being consistent and of course, having good content! But even having the best of content isn’t going to matter if you post once a year…

To everyone I say, start your goals NOW. Don’t wait until the New Year comes around. Time doesn’t wait and waiting is just wasted time. Time that you’ll never get back.

Set goals. Set big goals. Just don’t try to do accomplish them in a month!
